What is a machining centre?

The term machining centre refers to most CNC milling machines and drilling machines that use a workholding table and automatic tool-changer, tool carousel or tool magazine.

The key to a machining centre is that the tool rotates while the work stays still.

5 Axis machining centres allow for the tool to pivot, allowing the milling machine to work at various angles and orientations.

Milling Machines are likely the most common type of CNC machine used today. In this context, milling means using a rotary tool to remove material from the piece of work.
