Developing the next generation of engineers

The Engineering Technology Group (ETG) was delighted to join training partners In-Comm at its recent Open Forum event, designed to showcase its new £1.5m academy extension at Aldridge in the West Midlands.

More than 30 local businesses were present to discuss Apprenticeship Trailblazers, their skill requirements and the type of courses and machinery they would like to see incorporated into the new facility.

ETG’s Key Account Director Graeme Thomas provided an insight into the CNC Zone that will be housed there, which will include a Quaser MF630U (5-axis), Hardinge Bridgeport V1000 (3-axis), Hardinge Bridgeport GX710 (3-axis) and a GS200 turning centre.

Martin Doyle, Managing Director of ETG, said: “This was a great event as it gave local manufacturers the opportunity to tell us what they want out of the Academy and how we can install the type of technology they need their staff to learn on.

“There was even talk of potentially using some of the machines to support companies with prototyping and short batch work, giving them access to capabilities they may not be able to install themselves.”

The In-Comm Academy in Aldridge is one of 15 ETG Technical Academies being created across the UK and Ireland.

In addition to providing upskilling, apprenticeship and technology sharing, they will also be used to demonstrate our range of new machines and turnkey solutions.
